Snowball fights, skiing and bundling up to go caroling are all popular activities for Christmas break, but not in Florida. The Sunshine State, with its warm holiday season, does not lend itself to cold weather activities. Never fear, as there are still plenty of activities to do while the kids are out of school and the holiday spirit is in the air, and if you know where to look, you just might find snow and ice after all.

    Christmas Around the World

    • Epcot's Holidays Around the World offers a chance to see how different countries celebrate the holiday season and learn about their customs, foods and traditions. This celebration starts the day after Thanksgiving and finishes at the end of December. It culminates in a nightly candlelight procession in the American Gardens Theater. As of 2010, a one-day ticket for ages 10 and over is $82.00, but many discounts are available, including multi-day tickets, Florida resident specials, AAA, AARP and vacation packages.

    SNOW and ICE

    • Although you will not normally find snow and ice in Florida, the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando brings you both. From the end of November to the beginning of January, Gaylord Palms presents SNOW!, an outdoor winter wonderland with 40 tons of snow and ICE!, an indoor 18,000 sf. playground of ice, featuring hand-carved ice sculptures. SNOW! is new in 2010 and includes a "Frosty Ring Toss," elf bowling and kiddie snow tube run. ICE! has duel 30-foot slides and since it is kept at a frigid nine degrees Fahrenheit, they provided blue parkas. Prices vary for the tickets depending on when you visit and your age. As of November 2010, a weekend combo ticket for an adult 13 and over is $35.98. Discounts are available for advanced purchase and weekday visits. Tickets are also available for the individual attractions.

    Santa's Enchanted Forest

    • Santa's Enchanted Forest in Miami is billed as the "World's Largest Christmas Theme Park." It features over 100 rides, the tallest Christmas tree in south Florida and millions of lights. It opens every year at the beginning of November and remains open through the beginning of January. As of November, 2010, a one day adult ticket is $24.30 or you can buy a season pass, offering unlimited admissions, for $44.00.
