How to Remove Linoleum From Subfloor
- 1). Remove the baseboard along the bottom of the wall with a small pry bar and a hammer. Place pry bar against the edge of the trim and tap it with the hammer. Gently pry the entire length of the baseboard away from the wall with the pry bar until the baseboard comes off.
- 2). Cut the flooring into six- to 12-inch wide strips with a utility knife. Pick out the first strip to remove, and then guide the heat gun over the linoleum in circular motions to heat the glue under the strip, allowing you to remove the linoleum.
- 3). Pry up linoleum strip with a flat putty knife and lift out the strip. You may need to soften the glue more under the strip with the heat gun, if the strip is well-adhered to the sub-floor.
- 4). Continue removing linoleum strips in the same manner. Once all of the strips are removed, use a stiff scraper to scrape up any additional glue on the sub-floor.
