Instructions on Installing Crown Molding

    • 1). Measure the length of each wall to which you will be fitting crown molding, using your tape measure. Write these measurements down, add 10 percent for wastage and purchase the materials from your local hardware store.

    • 2). Cut the crown molding into sections that match the length of each wall, using your miter saw. For large rooms, you may need to butt two sections of crown molding together.

    • 3). Cut the crown molding at 45-degree angles at each end of your coving sections, so that your crown molding fits together around corners.

    • 4). Ask a helper to hold the coving in place, and nail it to the wall, being sure to nail into the studs each time.

    • 5). Fill any nail holes in the crown molding with your putty and putty knife. If you wish, you can paint the crown molding any color you want.
