Incompatible Chargers

• The iPod Shuffle has a different charger than all other iPods. The non-USB end has a small dock with a metal protrusion that plugs into the Shuffle. This will not work with the iPod Touch.
  
  

Old Chargers

• Old chargers in the USB-adaptor style have changed shape slightly over time, with the iPod end becoming thicker or shorter. Some of the first- and second-generation iPod chargers have different pins inside and will not work with the recent generations of iPod Touch.
  
  

Test It

• As long as it fits in the bottom of the iPod Touch, the charger won't damage it. If it doesn't charge the iPod, you'll know it's incompatible. Never try to force in a cable that doesn't fit.
  
  

When in Doubt

• When in doubt, use the charger that came with the iPod Touch, or purchase a new one that you know is compatible. The old cables can stop working over time, so it's best to update every few years either way. An old or broken cable won't harm your iPod Touch.
