Ten Challenging Mystery Antiques
The Mystery Antique of the Week series has been fun to do over the past few years, and many antiques have been easy to guess. But there are a few that have been real stumpers.
Here are a few of the most challenging pieces yet.
I loved doing this piece in October and for good reason!
This particular piece was shown as part of the Mystery Antique Series in September 2009 with no correct guesses. It's use has always intrigued me. It's wooden, all one piece and was offered for sale for almost $300. And one of these days I'm going to buy one with the express purpose of trying to use it.
It took two different times as the Mystery Antique to get a correct guess on this piece and the guesses were as much fun to read as the actual item. It now sits in my son-in-law's office. It was pretty hard to give up, but he might actually have a use for it.
Related to another item in this list, another piece that I would really like to try out.
This is almost worth the price, just for the conversational value. Not a tool and not really completely useful, except in teaching circumstances.
And this??? I had no idea something like this existed or that there was a need for it. Hint -- it's food related.
Such a cool piece, as soon as I saw it I wanted it. I even bid on it, alas I did not win, but still wish I had added another few bucks to my bid.
It's a pretty old gadget and one that certainly is not in use today. Or at least it better not be!
This is another case of -- it's so great to have smart readers. This particular piece was a stumper and had numerous folks scratching their heads.
Feel free to add your comments and guess on this one. I've held the tool and am sure of what it is NOT, just don't know what it is. It's a very heavy industrial tool. Heavy and oily smelling. But what on earth was it used for?
