Introduction and Materials

Have you ever bought or made a piece of fused glass and then thought, "Okay, now what do I do with it?" Sure, you could hang it from a chain. That would be easy enough. But, there are many other options. This project was inspired by a fused glass pendant using a Dichroic glass called blue ripple and the Victorian style designs in Beaded Elegance by Cheryl Assemi.

To make this necklace, you will need the follow supplies and tools:

87 - 4mm Royal blue Czech crystal beads
50 Silver size 11 seed beads
About 25 inches of Soft-Touch size .010 beading wire
2 - 5x7mm Clear AB Czech crystal teardrop beads
2 - 2x2mm Crimp beads
1 Fused glass pendant
1 Silver claps or wire to make your own hook and eye clasp
Crimping pliers
Wire cutters

Attach First Crimp Bead

1. First, insert the end of the beading wire through the crimp bead and then loop it back into the crimp bead. Use crimping pliers to close the crimp bead.

String on Beads

2. String on 41 blue crystal beads and 41 silver seed beads alternating every one starting with a blue bead and ending with a silver bead - blue, silver, blue, silver, etc, making sure to cover the beading wire tail with beads as you string them on.

Add Fused Glass Pendant

3. String one teardrop bead (the larger end should be facing away from the beads previously strung) and then 4 silver and 3 blue beads alternating them again as before.
4. Add your fused pendant and then another silver, blue, silver, blue, and silver bead.

5. Insert the end of the beading wire into the blue bead that comes directly after the teardrop (added in step 3) from left to right so a circle is made.
6. Add a silver and a tear drop (this time larger end should be pointing to the left).

7. Repeat step 2 only this time start with a silver bead and end with a blue.

8. Repeat step 1 to finish the other end of the necklace.

9. Trip off excess beading wire, leaving about a 2 inch tail and insert the tail into your beads.

10. Add your hook and eye clasp to the ends. (If you use a different clasp that is soldered closed, you’ll need to add this during steps 1 and 8).
