Different Shapes of Granny Squares
- Triangle-shaped granny squares have three main corners to them. You start off the same way you do with a granny square with a chain to make a loop for the center. Crochet stitches around the ring to create your first row. Start the second row and crochet two stitches. Make your next three stitches in the same loop on that row to create a corner. Crochet two stitches and make the next three stitches in the same loop to create the second corner. Repeat to make the third corner and complete your second row. The number of stitches will increase as your triangle gets bigger.
- The hexagon granny design looks similar to a snowflake pattern. Begin your project with a chain to make the ring in the middle. Crochet around the ring to create the first row. Crochet one stitch then make a two-loop chain to create the first corner. The chain is done by pulling the yarn through your slip knot on the hook twice. Stitch again into the ring and then a two-loop chain to create the next corner. Repeat this process as you go around the ring. The stitches in between chains will increase as your hexagon granny grows.
- Half hexagon granny shapes are done the same way as the regular hexagon. Begin your granny shape by creating a chain and making a loop for the middle. Crochet your stitches the same way as the regular hexagon only crocheting halfway around the ring. You will be crocheting each row going from side to side instead of in a round circle pattern. Keep your stitches in line by counting as you go. This will ensure the edges remain straight and even.
- Granny square circles are the easiest to make. They consist of no corners to stitch or any counting. Crochet your chain to make the center loop. Crochet stitches around the loop for each row. Make a one-loop chain to move up to make the next row. Crochet all the way around until your granny circle is as large as you desire.
