How to Build a Wind Mill Power Supply for Your House
- 1). Evaluate your budget and how you will be able to manage and sustain a windmill. Find out if a permit is necessary by contacting your local government. You will need about an acre of land that is not populated with too many trees. Estimate if you will be able to build the windmill about 30 feet high from the ground. Find out how much it will cost to hire someone to do the windmill maintenance for you. Decide if you will build the windmill power supply all on your own or purchase a kit.
- 2). Prepare the windmill base. You will need a firm and secure base so that the tower does not topple over. You can make the base using concrete, which makes it more sturdy than wood. You can hire someone to build the base if you are not familiar with how to mix mortar to make concrete (cement and water mixed and then left to dry makes concrete). The base can be square or round.
- 3). Build the windmill tower using strong guide wires or tubing made from metal or plastic tubing. Attach the turbine, the blades, wires and rotor to the tower top. Get the electrical wire and run it through the pipe. Attach the turbine to the end of the wire and the battery unit to the other end of the wire. Get more electrical wires and connect these from the battery to the transformer.
- 4). Elevate the tower and fasten the strong guide wires or tubing securely to the top of the tower. This is where you will also attach the blades, rotor and turbine as explained in step 3. You want to have strong wires to keep the windmill from toppling over.
- 5). Hook up the transformer to your home. The power from the windmill relies predominantly on the type of weather in your location, particularly if there is a lot of wind. You should get enough power to run your television and refrigerator and to charge a cell phone.
