How to Make a Wheelchair Tote Bag
- 1). Cut two pieces of fabric, both 10 inches by 17 inches, for the main body of the tote bag.
- 2). Cut two pieces of fabric, both 3 inches by 12 inches, for the straps.
- 3). With the right sides of the fabric together, pin together the two main tote-bag pieces. Using 1/2-inch seams, sew three sides, leaving one long side open. This is the top of the tote. Turn the bag right-side out.
- 4). Make a hem at the top of the tote by folding under 1/2 inch and then 1 inch. Sew down.
- 5). Fold under 1/2 inch on all sides of straps. Press. With wrong sides together, fold straps in half lengthwise, press. Topstitch around straps close to all edges.
- 6). On the back of the tote, pin one end of each strap 2 inches from each side and 2 inches from the top edge. Sew in place.
- 7). Sew one section of a Velcro fastener to the free end of each strap. Sew the other part of the Velcro fastener to the front of the bag, 2 inches from each side and 2 inches from the top edge. Press two pieces together to close.
