How to Make a Scroll Book

    • 1). Cut horizontally across each paper bag, following the fold line near the bottom. Cut up one side of the resulting paper tube to open each bag into single sheets of paper.

    • 2). Write or draw on the front of the paper bag sheets.

    • 3). Roll each paper sheet horizontally, then twist it into a tight paper rope. Untwist and unroll the paper. Roll it vertically and twist it into a tight paper rope before untwisting and unrolling again. This procedure softens and crinkles the paper, giving it an aged texture.

    • 4). Use a sewing machine to sew the pieces of paper together end-to-end, creating one continuous strip (tape or glue will not be as effective for holding the crinkled pieces together). Sew them by overlapping the short ends of two pages and running a line of stitches through them from top to bottom. The sewing machine should be set to the longest stitch setting. Trim the loose threads. Loosely roll the paper horizontally.

    • 5). Lay one wooden rod on a level surface. Overlap it with the loose end of the paper roll and secure the paper to the rod with a row of staples. Wrap the paper roll around the rod, leaving about 15 inches free on the opposite end.

    • 6). Staple the loose end of the paper roll to the remaining rod. Roll this rod in the direction of the first until the remaining amount of paper is wrapped securely around the rod.
