Video: Decorating With Colored Sand & Candles
Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Angharad Jones with the Urban Craft Center in Santa Monica, California. And I'm here to show you how to decorate with sand and candles. So to create a candle centerpiece with some sand you are going to start with a nice sized pillar. And a vase that or a candle holder that's at least a little bit bigger then this, then your pillar. And you are going to put your pillar down inside of it. And this one is actually pretty tight which is nice. It means we won't have to use a lot of sand to get the effect that I want. And I'm just going to have three colors of sand and I'm just going to open the first one. And my idea is to create sort of layers. I'm not going to try to go for anything really precise because that's going to be difficult to do. So I'm just going to sprinkle some of the sand around and let it build up almost like a sand dune. I'm going to set that one aside and open my next color. So I added my first color and I let it mound up on one side a little like a sand dune. And I have brushed off the sand that I got on top of my candle so I don't mix my colors. And this one I'm going to pour the other side. This is my second color. And I'm going to be a little more careful on not getting it on my candle this time. And I'm going to mound it up over here. And I'm going to let it start overlapping the first color a little bit. And I'm going to set that one aside. So you can see I've got a little bit of an effect going on the side here where they are starting to overlap each other. And this one is a little grainier, a little different effect. I'm going to cut this one open. And this one I'm going to pour into the spaces that haven't gotten as high a mound. You can see the effect is that it's just going to pile up basically on all three sides. That one is sort of interesting. I'm going to tap that one down a little bit. And I'm going to add a little on the other side. Lifting my candle just a teensy bit to make it even. Here we go. You can kind of see the idea. And now what I'm going to do is come along and fill in the extra spaces in between. And I'll use this my second color on this side. And then I will go along and I would fill the other side with my first colors so that I would end up layering and then the layers will touch the original color. So that is decorating a candle with sand. And I'm Angharad Jones with the Urban Craft Center in Santa Monica, California. Happy crafting.
