How to Fold Paper Napkins for Thanksgiving

    First Napkin

    • 1). Place the first napkin on a table so that it is shaped like a diamond. Fold the right corner over to the left to make a crease directly down its center and open it back up.

    • 2). Fold the right and left corners in to meet at the center crease. Crease these two folds as well, then open the napkin again. It should now have three creases coming from the top of the diamond.

    • 3). Cut the tinfoil and shape it to fit between the two outer creases in the shape of a triangle. Make sure the tip of the triangle aligns at the top of the napkin. The foil triangle should be one third of the length of the napkin.

    • 4). Refold the right and left corners of the napkin over the tinfoil (to the center crease) without bending the aluminum.

    • 5). Take the new right and left corners and fold them into the center crease. Make sure your napkin now looks like a thin pyramid.

    • 6). Fold the entire napkin, including the aluminum foil, in half.

    • 7). Curve the pointed tip of the napkin backward (toward the non-diagonal, longest side of the triangle shape) to form the shape of a turkey neck and head.

    • 8). Unfold the last fold you made (the step after the napkin resembled a thin pyramid) without unfolding the turkey's neck and head. Pinch the neck and head while ensuring the tinfoil stays in place and that the point where the neck widens will be able to sit upright on a table.

    Second Napkin

    • 1). Lay the second napkin in the shape of a square in front of you.

    • 2). Fold the napkin in half horizontally but instead of lining up the edges, leave the bottom portion of the napkin about one inch longer than the top half.

    • 3). Pleat the napkin by folding it accordion-style (one inch pleats) from top to bottom.

    • 4). Bunch the center of the accordion napkin so that the edges fan outward. Tape it around the center.

    • 5). Tape together the top two pleats so that the napkin now resembles a fan of turkey feathers.

    Combining the Two Napkins

    • 1). Place the feather napkin behind the turkey's head and neck.

    • 2). Tape the two napkins together if they have trouble standing up by themselves.

    • 3). Tell your guests to use whichever napkin they wish. However, because of the tape, it might be easier for them to remove the tinfoil and use the turkey head napkin.
