When to Plant Freesia in a Garden in Zone 6
- Wait until after the last expected spring frost date in your area. This date varies across elevation and latitude in regions in the USDA zone 6 designation, but typically occurs mid April.
- For best growth and performance of the freesia plants, site them in a full to partial sun exposure in a slightly acidic soil that is moist, drains well, and contains organic matter. Plant corms 3 inches deep, and 2 to 3 inches apart. Expect flowers about 10 to 12 weeks after planting.
- Freesias do not excel in exceedingly hot summertime temperatures. Daytime highs in the 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit range are ideal, with nighttime temperatures 50 to 55 F.
