    Basics

    • Eggs and cheese are common complements to ham, either together or separately. For a high-protein breakfast, fried or poached ham can be served with any style eggs and hash browns. As brunch or a light lunch, try a ham-and-cheese quiche, omelet or frittata.

    Sandwiches

    • Hot or cold and dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, mustard and bread, ham's distinct flavor will still come through. A traditional club sandwich will also have turkey and bacon.

    Traditional

    • Baked ham with pineapple is popular as a main dish for holidays or a memorable Sunday dinner. Accompanied by baked or Delmonico potatoes and a green vegetable, this is a hearty meal.

    • Bean and ham soup

      Diced ham adds flavor, protein and texture to a busy dish with multiple ingredients, such as jambalaya or pasta salad. Make a vegetable or bean soup more substantial by including it.

    Food Safety

    • Partially-cooked ham should be brought to a 160 degrees F before eating or chilling; pre-cooked ham should be heated to 140 degrees F. Cured hams come in packaging unique to its producer, so the cook should follow the instructions included.
