How to Make Coiled Necklaces
- 1). Cut a 30-inch-long piece of medium-gauge jewelry wire for a long necklace or 20 inches of the wire for a short necklace.
- 2). Fold the wire in half to find the center point. Thread your pendant onto the necklace and slide it to the center of the wire.
- 3). Cut a long piece of medium-gauge jewelry wire. Choose a 14 to 18 wire gauge for a wire easy to coil while stiff enough to hold the shape. Cut the wire to about 4 times the length you would like the necklace. For a long, 30-inch necklace cut about 120 inches of wire. For a short, 20-inch necklace cut about 80 inches of wire.
- 4). Measure ½-inch from one end of the first piece of wire and wrap the long length of wire around the first piece.
- 5). Coil the wire around the first piece and use a pair of thin nose pliers to help bend the wire if necessary. Wrap the wire tightly and continue wrapping the wire until you reach about ½-inch from opposite end.
- 6). Shape the wire into a circular necklace shape.
- 7). Hook a crimp end onto each end of the first wire. Insert the wire ends through the holes in the crimp ends. Make loops in the wire ends, hook a necklace clasp onto one of the ends and a jump ring onto the other end. Slide the wire ends back through the hole in the crimp ends. Squeeze the crimp ends closed with thin nose pliers.
