DVR-MS to MPEG Conversion
- DVR-MS files are already encoded as MPEG-2 (for the video) and MPEG-1 layer 2 (for the audio) but cannot be played in most non-Microsoft media players. DVR-MS is really a proprietary container format--a way of storing the MPEG-encoded files.
- MPEG refers to a group of audio and visual encoding and decoding methods (or "codecs") developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group--hence the name "MPEG." MPEG codecs can compress files to a smaller size than other codecs that produce results of similar quality.
- To convert a DVR-MS file to a standard MPEG file, you'll need a program that can remove the DVR-MS "container," leaving just the MPEG-encoded info. Programs that can perform this conversion include OJOsoft Total Video Converter, AVS Video Converter and Digital Media Converter Pro (see Resources section).
