How to Clean & Clear a Cartridge Pool Filter
- 1). Disconnect power to the pool pump to avoid electrical shock, by unplugging the electrical cord or turning off the circuit breaker.
- 2). Close all valves on the pool skimmer and pool pump to avoid loss of water while cleaning the filter and cartridge. Open the filter's drain plug to allow water to drain from the filter as you clean it.
- 3). Press the safety latch, then unscrew and remove the lid by twisting it counterclockwise. Lift off the lid to access the dirty filter cartridge. Gently lift out the cartridge.
- 4). Wash the cartridge using a garden hose with a straight flow nozzle attached. Begin at the top of the filter and work your way down, cleaning it inside and out. Clean between all the pleats and continue to do so until the water runs clear from the cartridge.
- 5). Wash the inside of the filter using the garden hose; continue to wash the inside of the filter until the water runs clear out of the drain plug.
- 6). Soak the cartridge in a solution of 1 cup of laundry detergent to 5 gallons of water. Dissolve the detergent in a bucket of water and place the cartridge in the solution to soak overnight.
- 7). Rinse the cartridge of any solution with the garden hose, then place it back into the filter housing. Place the lid back on the filter and screw it on tightly. Your filter is now ready for use. Open all valves, close the drain plug and restore power to the pool pump.
