Barbershop Face Treatment

    Features

    • The barbershop face treatment includes hot towels, a good shave cream and a massage that includes head, neck, shoulders and hands.

    Process

    • After reclining the customer back in the chair and wrapping his face with steamy towels, the barber lathers on a rich shave cream and shaves the customer's face with a straight razor. After shaving, more hot towels are applied for a few minutes, then the customer is given a relaxing massage and splashed with an after-shave treatment.

    Benefits

    • Most men find the massage during the facial treatment to be a mood lifter and very relaxing. The hot towels soften the whiskers, which produces a closer, more even shave, and they also open the pores, allowing cleansers to work more efficiently.

    History

    • From the fifth century, B.C., the Greeks had their beards trimmed and scented with exotic essences. The massage aspect became popular after 296 B.C. in Rome. The Romans developed the cosmetic aspect further, applying ointments to the face and performing manicures.

    Fun Fact

    • Up to the Middle Ages, the most popular method of curing ailments was "bloodletting" and it was performed by members of the clergy, who were assisted by barbers. In the 12th century, clergymen were no longer allowed to remove blood from human bodies and barbers took over the task, becoming "barber-surgeons."
