How to Get Rid of Byhalia Grass

    • 1). Pull a dethatching rake through the entire area of Bahiagrass in one direction pulling and lifting up the grass, thatch and roots to the surface.

    • 2). Create a gridded second pass by turning 90-degrees and pulling the dethatching rake through the entire area in what is now a cross hatch pattern. Check your progress and determine if a third pass is required and if so, rotate another 90-degrees and proceed.

    • 3). Use the flexible-tined rake to scrape up as much of the loosened thatch and grass debris as possible and discard. This may still require you to get on your hands and knees and pull some stubborn shoots out by the roots but get as much of it up as you can.

    • 4). Remain vigilant for several months or two. You may still need to pull some shoots up and out by the roots every few days or each week as they appear, with a patient maintenance regime in a year your beastly Bahiagrass will be a memory. Overplanting with a new lawn that prefers to be cut very short will also help keep any sprouting Bahiagrass seedlings at bay.
