To be certified, health care providers must demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in several areas including rescue breathing, relief of choking and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Some certification programs also teach how to recognize symptoms of stroke and heart attack, and risk factors for heart disease. - Some certification programs teach healthcare providers how to use life saving equipment such as barrier and bag-mask devices used for assisting with breathing, and automated external defibrillators (AED). The use of manikins in various sizes may also be implemented.
