How to Refurbish Velcro

    • 1). Separate the two sides of the Velcro and look carefully at each side. Notice one side has soft loops and the other side has more bristly and jagged hooks. You must clean both sides; however, you will use one cleaning method for the soft side and a different method for the hard side.

    • 2). Take a 5-inch piece of duct tape and roll it into a loop so the outer edge of the loop is sticky and the inner edge of the loop is the shiny surface of the tape. Apply the sticky side of the duct tape to the soft loops of the Velcro to remove excess hair and lint from this side. Continue dabbing at the Velcro until you have removed all lint and debris.

    • 3). Use the fine-toothed comb on the bristly side of the Velcro. Run the teeth of the comb through the Velcro hooks to pick out the lint and hair from the hooks. Continue picking at the Velcro until you have removed the excess debris and the Velcro is clean.

    • 4). Place the two Velcro sides together again. They should attach to each other much more effectively now that they are clean. Repeat these cleaning methods whenever debris clogs the loops and hooks of the Velcro.
