Finding That Thing That You Love

103 15
Most people do not really enjoy their occupations.
Or the job they do that makes them their income.
I think I know why.
Let me explain with a personal story.
I grew up in a working class family.
My dad was a carpenter.
Was he always a carpenter? No, he started out as a farm hand after he got married.
Then the owner of the farm died which was a bad thing for my dad because he really did not get along that well with his wife.
So he left there and joined the ranks in a linen factory.
He worked there until my sister and I came along, and there was not enough money to support us not including the next little sister on the way.
So he picked up a hammer and an apron and decided he would be a carpenter.
That ended up being a good-fit for him.
He worked for many companies and bridge buildings companies until he made the decision the go alone and owns his own company as a general contractor.
He did that until his health failed and spent the last number of years as a superintendent on high-rise apartments.
My dad was lucky in the sense he found something he really did enjoy doing.
He became very good at it.
I had the wonderful opportunity to work along side home in his trade until I realized that I would not make a good carpenter.
Many of us end up in a job or career we stick with only because in is steady and it makes an income we think we can live with.
But few of us enjoy it.
