    Scale Insects

    • Scale insects are armored little pests that suck fluids from plants. The University of Kentucky cautions against using excessive fertilizer on your plant because it makes jade more susceptible to this insect. Spray your jade plant with horticultural oil designed for this purpose -- it will smother these creatures.

    Mealybugs

    • Clemson University reports that mealybugs are the most common insect pest that threatens jade plants. This small insect is white and fuzzy, resembling cotton. To control mealybugs, dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol and wipe off the insects. Clemson advises against using insecticidal soap on jade plants.

    Spider Mites

    • When spider mites attack a jade plant, they form webs much like spider webs. These webs are visible to the naked eye. The plant can lose its healthy green color and might begin to look dusty or as if tiny specks are on the leaves. You can control this arachnid by periodically rinsing the plant in your shower and cutting off and discarding affected leaves and branches, according to Colorado State University.
