Missouri S&T Graduate Certificate

• The Missouri University of Science & Technology offers several different routes for individuals to obtain training in demolition and explosives. The graduate certificate program for explosives engineering exposes students to theoretical and practical approaches to explosive engineering. Admission requires students to hold a bachelor's, master's or Ph. D degree in science and have at least 12 months in a post-bachelor of science professional employment experience. Students who don't meet these requirements can take bridge courses at graduate or undergraduate levels to prepare for the course and must consult with the Mining and Engineering Department at Missouri S&T to discuss this option.
  
  

Missouri S&T Bachelor in Mining Engineering

• Missouri S&T also provides a bachelor's degree in mining engineering, which features demolition and explosion courses. Students are required to submit the application before the December 1 deadline. The admissions process is very selective, and acceptance is based on a combination of high-school core curriculum, ACT and/or SAT scores, class rank percentile and grade point average (GPA). Students must collect four units for English and math, three units for social studies and science, two units for a single foreign language and one unit from fine arts. Students with a composite SAT score for math and critical reading of 120 or greater are directly accepted into the program, and those with a composite SAT score between 100 and 120 may be admitted but will receive reduced academic schedules and enhanced advising to ensure that they fit into the program.
  
  

Purdue University

• Purdue University in Indiana offers a demolition and reconstruction management program. The program recognizes the need for training in demolition for construction and restoration of buildings and structures. The program was developed with the assistance of the National Demolition Association, with an aim to teach students about challenges associated with demolition and reconstruction, technologies involved in demolition, as well as problem solving, safety and risk management. Students are required to have completed eight semesters of English, six semesters of math, six semesters of laboratory science and four semesters of foreign language. An SAT score of 480 or higher on the Critical Reading section and an ACT score of 20 or higher is recommended.
  
  

Engineering Program Requirements

• Most engineering schools feature mining schools, which provide coursework and training in demolition, reconstruction and explosion, even if they are not specific to a demolition degree. The requirements for acceptance into these courses are similar to those mentioned for Missouri S&T and Purdue--students must have completed the recommended requirements in English, math, science and foreign language and have at least an average GPA.
  
  Once enrolled in a university, students can generally transfer to an engineering program. You can apply directly, but many professional programs require that you complete your basic or core courses at a university before applying to get into the discipline.
