How to Display a Science Fair Project for a Sixth-Grader
- 1). Organize your information into clearly divided, easily identifiable and labeled sections. Your science fair display should resemble a newspaper, with large headings and paragraphs that flow logically from one step to the next. On the left panel, begin with sections on the purpose of your experiment, your hypothesis, and background or research. In the center middle panel, outline each step of your experiment and present evidence and data. The third panel should contain your results, conclusion, and discussion sections.
- 2). Use color wisely. Many students make the mistake of creating a board that is too visually distracting, with harsh, mismatching neon colors. A white or neutral toned poster board is much more pleasing to the eye and easy to read. If you do use color, keep it simple. Use colored ink in your headings or colored construction paper behind your paragraphs to make the information stand out. If possible, choose colors that are related to your topic to tie the visual presentation to the content.
- 3). Include photos and tangible evidence whenever possible. Complimenting your text with pictures keeps the project visually appealing and helps the viewer better understand your experiment and results. Refrain from putting text on top of photos, as it can be distracting and difficult to read.
