How to Apply Stippling to a Ceiling
- 1). Brush off the ceiling to remove dust and cobwebs.
- 2). Open up a bucket of drywall compound. Add a little bit of water to the bucket and stir it up with a drill mixer. You don't want to thin it out, just loosen it up a little.
- 3). Dip a flat-edged trowel in the bucket and spread it over a section of the ceiling. Work in an area no bigger than about 2 square feet at a time. If you work in a larger area, it will dry out before you can finish stippling.
- 4). Place a bristle brush over the section and lightly tap it into the surface material. Repeat the process in each section to cover the ceiling. As you add more sections, stipple between the sections to ensure that there isn't an obvious seam or line between them.
- 5). Clean the brush off after each section by swishing it in water. This will keep it clean and ensure that the stippling is uniform throughout the entire surface.
