How to Fold an Origami Hexagon

    • 1). Set a square piece of paper on the table with the side you want shown facing down. The length of the square's side must be double that of the hexagon sides. For example, if you want one side of the hexagon to equal 3 inches, each side of the square must be 6 inches.

    • 2). Fold the square in half so that the top edge meets the bottom. Crease the middle. Unfold the square and then fold again so that the right side meets the left. Crease the middle and open again.

    • 3). Place the left edge into the middle crease and flatten out the edge this creates. Unfold and you should see a lined crease halfway between the middle the left edge. Repeat on the right side.

    • 4). Grasp the right edge of the square in the middle. Fold it so that the middle of the right side lines up with the top left corner, then shift towards the top slightly. Leave a piece of the top left corner showing. The resulting crease should cross through the center of the square, where the horizontal and vertical creases meet.

    • 5). Fold the top left corner over the side edge and crease it. Unfold the piece of paper back to the shape of a square. Fold the top left corner down. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 with the left edge and top right corner.

    • 6). Fold the left and right edge in as you did in Step 3, but while the top left and right corners are still folded down. Fold the top edge down and crease, creating a small triangle between the top and the sides. Unfold the top and the sides, but leave the corners folded in.

    • 7). Fold the square down at the middle. Flip the paper over so that the bottom edge is now the top edge. Fold this edge toward the inside of the square, the part you won't see, so that the resulting crease lines up with the rest of the square.

    • 8). Open the square up so that the top left and right corners, top edge and the bottom edge are still folded in. Fold in the top left corner a second time to make a crease that extends from the middle of the left edge to the vertical line halfway between the middle and left sides. Repeat with the right side, and the bottom left and right corners.

    • 9). Use tape to secure the folds on the backside of the hexagon.
