How to Grow a White-Top Pitcher From Seed
- 1). Place 1 to 2 cups of sphagnum moss on a cutting board and chop it up as finely as possible. Insert the moss into a plastic food storage bag and add 1/4 cup of distilled water until it is moist but no water pools in the bottom.
- 2). Insert the white-top pitcher plant seeds into the bag and seal it up. Place the bag into a refrigerator and leave it there for eight weeks.
- 3). Fill a seed tray or other container three-fourths of the way full with a mixture of 1 part peat and 2 parts of sand, mixed together thoroughly. If desired, you can substitute perlite for the sand.
- 4). Remove the bag of seeds from the refrigerator and open it up. Separate the white-top pitcher seeds from the moss and place the seeds on top of the soil in the planting container. Press them down gently but do not cover them with soil.
- 5). Fill a spray bottle with distilled water and spray the top of the soil until it is completely wet but not soggy. Wrap a piece of clear plastic wrap over the top to prevent the moisture from evaporating.
- 6). Set the seeds 4 to 5 inches underneath a fluorescent light and leave the light on for at least 16 hours per day.
