Tractacus Lupus Mundus
The first known appearance of the species so designated Lupus Erectus; meaning 'upright wolf', occurs among fossils dating back to the Paleolithic Era in the region now known as Siberia on the far western Peninsula of the Asian continent.
The fossils have been identified as distinct from others found nearby by the noted differences in cranial, jaw and other skeletal configurations; i.
e.
, elongated snout and upper placement of ear cavities as well as elongated canine teeth and sharpened claw-like fingers and toes.
These characteristics were found on a skeleton, which also featured a straight and sturdy spinal column suggesting that this creature did indeed walk upright.
Moreover, what would be considered a more regular 'human' skull, that is, one consistent with hominid primate ancestors of the genus Homo Erectus or Neanderthal are found nearby but appear to have had no relation to those of Lupus Erectus.
Lest through a primitive form of contact such as war, or as I conjecture serving as food for the somewhat larger lupine genus, I can see no viable means of social intercourse between the two species.
Through extensive research with the aid and able assistance of my colleague Professor Pamela Saunders of Connecticut University, I have been able to conclude that early human species had mastered the art of domesticating animals for use in such agrarian activities as farm production and husbandry.
However, in these earliest evidences of Lupus Erectus this does not seem to be the case.
Rather, as I have mentioned earlier, early hominid species such as Homo erectus would have found itself sorely at a disadvantage.
In regards to brain capacity as well as manual dexterity of limbs, Lupus Erectus given its physical build would have been faster and smarter than a human prototype existing at the time.
Here, I must concede to the simplest evolutionary thinking, which has early man somehow descending from even earlier species of primates and the like.
This does not appear to be the course followed by the evolution of this uncanny species, which combined the physical and I must presuppose instinctual traits of the canine species with the most skilled rationalizing ability of Homo sapiens as that genus later developed.
In other words, the genus of creature so designated Lupus Erectus had already evolved into a higher form of hominid creature thousands, if not millions of years before anything resembling human civilization would appear.
But given the prehistoric antiquity of these fossil remains, there is no way of knowing whether Lupus Erectus ever formed a civilization, as we know it, of its own.
Perhaps the creatures associated in loose bands or acted as individuals, perhaps at odds with one another or in varying forms of alliance.
But it is known, again from the fossil records we have available, that compared to the other Hominid remains, which may be more readily identified as ancestors of present day sapiens, Lupus Erectus was in comparison the dominant of the two species.
LUPUS TROPICOPOLIS Contrary to common evolutionary theory, which has man emerging from the Fertile Crescent in Africa and migrating outward, Lupus Erectus appears to have originated somewhere near the region now known as the North Pole which over several million years ago was a lush rain forest.
I have designated this original species genus Lupus Tropicopolis.
With scant evidence, I have nonetheless speculated elsewhere that at one time there may well have been an advanced civilization, now buried under megatons of ice and tundra.
I have further speculated that this was a lycanthrope society whose descendent is the present day wolves indigenous to the Arctic Region.
In future given more sophisticated technology archeologists, researchers, explorers and anthropologists will have access to those buried strata.
I hope to uncover vast corridors of lost cities, which at present we can only speculate upon.
However, we are able to conclude with certain latitude, given historical figurines found over time depicting so-called wolf-gods, that these in fact represent upright wolf-like creatures that yet maintain a mystique of wisdom and hunting ability among the Inuit peoples.
I find interesting parallels between these creatures and the various dog-headed gods of ancient Egypt, i.
e.
, Thoth, Anubis, et al.
That these gods ruled over a distant netherworld supposed to be somewhere far north again suggests that the tales, who in fact predate the rise of Egyptian civilization, are rooted more in history than in myth.
Lupus Erectus cum Femme Orientalis In contrast to Homo sapiens' eastward migration, Lupus Erectus appears to have moved westward descending from the Siberian Steppes into the area now known as Asia.
The civilization they found there, an early though relatively advanced Oriental culture was perhaps matriarchal in nature as well as Lunar oriented.
By thus dominating this culture and mating with its females, Lupus Erectus may have contributed to the distinct look of today's Asian peoples.
This may also explain the development of the lycanthropic tendency towards nocturnal habits.
What cannot be adequately explained however is the very little understood 'transformation', whereby Homo sapiens to all appearances, actually take the form of lycanthropes; that is, change completely from one species to the other.
The key to this transformation must be in the very adaptability of the Lupine gene, which enables it to assimilate into human society even if by all evidence the Lupus Erectus is a superior creature in every stead.
What then leads the Lupus Erectus to hide if in fact, it is a superior creature to Homo sapiens? I believe the answer lies partly in the rate of population growth among Homo sapiens in general.
As conjectured earlier in this paper, given the few remains available and the proximity of the two species, Lupus Erectus seems to be a natural predator of Homo sapiens for the sake of diet.
Given the prevalence of Homo sapiens; a result of rabid multiplication, one is led to conclude that Lupus Erectus found itself with an embarrassment of riches, or at least an overabundance of food stock.
With this overpopulation came disease and artificial means of promoting and prolonging health and the appearance of health.
Earlier human societies had to contend with tainted water, poisonous vegetation and rotting animal flesh, which contaminated the human blood stream, making Homo sapiens, by and large the carriers of virulent strains of virus and bacteria.
Lupus Erectus would then have to be very selective in its choice of Homo sapiens as food stock in order to avoid the debilitating effect of these various plagues.
In this sense, the phrase 'only the strong survive' takes on portentous overtones.
In order to survive, Lupus Erectus had to prey on the strong, thus allowing the weak to thrive, since there only relatively few examples of superlative human physical specimens.
LUPUS REX There may also be an irony in that upon examination of the fossil remains of Homo sapiens found alongside those of Lupus Erectus; the configuration of the pelvis bone appears to indicate that the Homo sapiens in question were female, young though definitely post-pubescent.
Of course at this age the human female is at the peak of her development; filled with hyperactive hormones and a body constituted of a combination of very lean and tender muscle and sinewy fat.
The same characteristics that make her ripe for mating also apparently make her ripe for eating.
With this knowledge, Lupus Erectus with its superior brain must have deduced that the best time for selecting this specimen was at night, as even today we can find a plethora of young nubile women gathered in flocks in relatively isolated and remote areas.
In such locations, Lupus Erectus might thrive, if again not for the prevalence of diseases among the human population not least young women who may be carriers of sexually transmitted and inherited viruses, which might otherwise debilitate even a healthy Lupus Erectus.
It is not known and cannot be known until further study whether Lupus Erectus is in fact immune to human contagion, but the circumstantial evidence seems to indicate that it is not.
If these diseases are not fatal to Lupus Erectus, as say, European contagion were to the majority of the rest of the world's population, at the very least it would be disagreeable to come down with any symptoms whatsoever.
What can be conjectured is that the genetics of Lupus Erectus make it very resilient in any regard.
It especially seems to have been immune to things that would normally be fatal to Homo sapiens.
Given Lupus Erectus' migration patterns, it would have been able to withstand extreme temperatures and multiple injuries.
Given the relatively few numbers of Lupus Erectus as well as the history borne from prevalent myth, I have concluded that Lupus Erectus' ability to survive was increased exponentially to its numbers.
That is to say while humankind may have a steady and rising death toll, it still has the characteristic of perpetuation of its species.
Lupus Erectus, not multiplying in such superfluous numbers therefore has been able to sustain itself by simply living longer, possessing the ability to survive every form of cataclysm and apocalypse that has befallen humanity and served to reduce its numbers.
Floods, fires, etc.
seem to have made no impression on the lycanthrope, as it has been able to spread throughout Asia, Africa, Europe and even North America.
Lycanthropes may even have been among the early explorers, travelers, settlers and slaves in North America and may thrive to this day as an active underground culture or as individuals.
There is likewise strong evidence that long before European colonization the Native Americans had already known of and encountered lycanthropes.
There are many accounts of lycanthropes in Europe, particularly in France and Eastern Europe.
I speculate that Lupus Erectus migrated into Europe, integrating into the society of the so-called gypsies.
The Gypsy, or Romany, originating in India and Egypt moved through the Arab regions of the Middle East and upward through Italy and Greece at the time of the Roman Empire spreading through the continent as far north as England and Scandinavia.
Again, as is the case with early myth, many tales of lycanthropes have come down to us in the form of fairy tales and children's stories.
It should be noted that in these stories, the lycanthrope is usually portrayed as preying on young women and girls.
As previously explained, this would logically be the lycanthrope's preferred diet.
