Make sure the suit fits. If you have a slimmer build, wearing a suit that's too large for you will make you look diminished and smaller than you are. A suit that is too tight will be uncomfortable as you try to move around and converse with different colleagues, and it won't go unnoticed by others, either. Sleeves that are too short or stressed buttons do not make the kind of impression you want. If you can't find a good striped suit in your size, tailors can fit one to you. The closer the suit matches your body type, the more put-together you'll look.

Use your tie to your advantage. People tend to wear solid ties with striped suits out of fear of their clothing appearing too busy. There is no need to shy away from patterned ties. The lines of the suit are so straight and formative that stripes in a different direction or even other patterns like polka-dots or paisley can create a focal point in your ensemble.

Carry a vest in the car. Vests are considered dressy and stylish, and they're perfect for sprucing up a daytime suit. If you keep a matching vest in your car, you can quickly throw it on under your jacket in seconds, transforming your look from worker to classy schmoozer.

Use your shirt to splash in some color. Gone are the days of the neutral business shirts. If your suit has stripes of a vibrant color, choose a shirt in that color or one that complements it. If the stripes are white or gray, any bright or pastel shirt will work in your favor to draw the eyes up toward your face and set off the dual tone of your suit. Remember, at social events with lots of people crowded into a small space, the room can get hot, and if people are taking off their suit jackets, it's the ones in the colored shirts who will make a lasting impression.
