How To Kill Vinca Minor
- 1). Dig up the vinca minor plants. Be sure to get the shovel under the plant and into the ground far enough to get at the roots. Shake the dirt out of the roots and put the plants in the yard waste bin.
- 2). Use a rake to pull the runners away from the ground, if you opt for less exertion. Pulling the runners away from the ground will prevent the plant from expanding.
- 3). Lower your mower blade close to the ground, once you have lifted the runners out of the ground. This will cut up the runners as well as the tops of the plant just above the roots.
- 4). Spray those exposed pieces of root tops with an herbicide containing glyphosate as a main ingredient. This will help get the chemical to the root.
- 5). Water the plant if it returns, to promote some growth. Then, spray once again with the herbicide. Use the chemical on the vinca minor plants during the spring, late summer and early fall, applying according to package instructions. This type of application will allow the plant to carry the glyphosate to the roots along with other nutrients used to nourish the plant.
