How to Make a Flap Pillow
- 1). Measure the length of your pillow form and add 1 inch. Measure the width and add 1 inch. Cut one piece of cover fabric to this size. Cut two pieces at two-thirds the length and the same width.
- 2). Place your two two-third length pieces on the table so they are facing the same direction. Turn under one width side 1/2 inch and iron. Repeat for the second piece. Turn the fold under 1 inch and iron. Repeat for the second piece. Sew a hem stitch attaching the 1-inch fold to the cover. Repeat for the second piece.
- 3). Position your full-size cover piece face side up on the work table. Place one of the short pieces face side down with the hem toward the center. Align the outer raw edges. Place the second short piece face side down and overlapping the first piece with the hem toward the center. Align the outer raw edges. Pin a 1/2-inch seam allowance around the perimeter. Sew your 1/2-inch seam allowance. Clip the corners of the seam allowance to reduce bulk in the corners and turn the cover right side out.
- 4). Insert the pillow form between the flaps. Slide your hand to the corners and align the corners. Tuck the second half of the pillow into the cover and align the corners. Smooth out the pillow cover so the envelope or flap is flat.
