    Easter Crafts

    • Easter crafts are probably the most obvious choice for foam egg craft ideas. Covering a foam egg with colorful materials is a great way to make Easter egg decorations that are sturdy and lightweight and can be used year after year. Other Easter-related shapes, such as rabbits, chicks and flowers, can be given double holiday significance when formed with an egg-shaped motif. Use eggs to make rotund bodies or cartoony heads for animals, and color them with pastel paints, ribbon and pastel-colored felt or paint.

    Other Crafts

    • Use foam eggs to make year-round decorations. You can simply decorate them (think in the style of Fabergé) or use them in sculptures with portions that are naturally egg-shaped, such as tulip blossoms. Foam eggs are also a great addition to children's crafts, where they can be colored to represent the eggs they're shaped like: dinosaur eggs, robin eggs, turtle eggs or those of any other animal.

    Working with Foam

    • Whatever project you choose, design it with proper materials in mind. You can decorate foam eggs in a number of different ways, depending on the appearance and texture you want them to have. To paint the eggs, use acrylic or tempera paint and be sure to select your eggs accordingly; some foam eggs have a dense texture with a smooth surface, and paint will lie the most evenly and go on the most easily with one of these. This foam generally has a smooth texture with a bit of sheen, so applying a glossy paint will give you a shiny colored egg.

Eggs with a coarser, more porous texture lend themselves better to being covered with fabric, especially if you want to attach the fabric using pins. If using glue, opt for a flexible craft glue like a tacky glue or hot glue. The fabric you use is a matter of personal taste, but choose a fabric that doesn't stretch much for the best coverage.

You can also decorate eggs with many other colorful and interesting items, including glitter, sequins, ribbons, beads (use strung beads or flat-bottom cabochons) or buttons.
