How to Laminate and Hang Photo Prints
- 1). Sand your wood piece thoroughly to even out the surface and wipe away any debris with the tack cloth.
- 2). Paint the wood with acrylic paint in your choice of color and finish. Allow 2-3 days to dry completely. If you already like the color and appearance of the wood, skip ahead to the next step.
- 3). Trim the edges of your image using the X-acto knife and the ruler or cut around the silhouette for a more dramatic effect. You can use digital photos, magazine cuttings or computer printouts on high quality paper. Make sure to trim on a cutting mat or kitchen cutting board.
- 4). Pre-heat the iron to the highest, non-steam setting.
- 5). Peel off the laminate liner and lay it, sticky side up, on a clean work surface. Carefully place the photo print face down on the sticky laminate and smooth into place.
- 6). Flip the image over. It should now be face up. Continue smoothing the surface to remove any bubbles.
- 7). Position the image on the wood, making sure it is carefully centered.
- 8). Cover with the silicone cloth and iron with slow, steady movements in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes. Make sure the image stays in place during the ironing. Check to ensure that the laminate is sticking fully to the wood. Once the lamination is complete, allow the newly decorated wood to cool completely before hanging.
- 1). Pre-drill the screw eye holes in the back of the wood using the appropriate size drill bit. To determine the correct size bit, check the size of the screw eyes in the picture hanging kit. There should be two holes, one on either side of the frame. The holes should be placed at the top and should be about 1/3 of the picture height. Insert and secure the screw eyes from the kit into the pre-drilled holes.
- 2). Measure the wire from the picture hanging kit. It should be about 1.5 times the distance between the eye holes. Trim the wire with the long nose pliers.
- 3). Push the wire through the eyes so that an even amount is left on each side. Loop the wire through one eye twice and then securely fasten the remaining wire around itself. Adjust the wire so that when tension is applied the point of the wire (where it will hang ) is no more than halfway up between the eyes and the top of the picture. Loop and fasten the remaining wire through the second eye, following the same steps as the first eye.
- 4). Apply self-adhesive felt dots to the back of the picture to prevent it damaging the wall.
- 5). Drill a heavy duty screw into the wall at the place where you want to hang your laminated picture. Hang the picture on the screw, making small adjustments as necessary.
