How to Draw a Really Good Rocket Ship

    • 1). Draw two parallel lines of approximate equal length. These lines serve as the rocket's outer hull. Space them approximately 1/2-inch apart or according to your own preference, but if you make them too narrow, your rocket will look more like a missile.

    • 2). Draw a circle between the bottom edges of the hull lines where the circle connects to the very tips of the hull lines. This circle serves as the base of the propulsion system.

    • 3). Connect the top of the hull with a half circle, with the arch facing out. Make the half circle's curve equal to the propulsion system's circle.

    • 4). Draw two or three cones within the propulsion system's circle. The tips of the cones should fit within the circle; the sides and the end of the cones should extend past the circle's edges.

    • 5). Draw a cone on the tip of the rocket to indicate the nose of the rocket. Make the cone wider than the hull, similar to how a roof of a house extends past the walls.

    • 6). Draw two squares on the hull approximately 25 percent of the width of the hull. These squares serve as rough drafts to the rocket's windows.

    • 7). Erase the side of the windows closest to the nose cone, and the side of the windows closest to the propulsion system using your eraser.

    • 8). Connect the remaining window lines with half circles using curves equal to the curve of the nose and the propulsion system. These curves give your windows a curved look that matches the curve of the hull.

    • 9). Draw small "fins" on the outside of the propulsion system, each one approximately the same width as the hull. When drawing the fins, imagine the fins of a shark. These fins serve as the rocket's guidance system.

Draw two stacks of three elongated ovals, each connected to the propulsion system's circle.

    • 11

Draw flames coming out of the last elongated oval to indicate propulsion.

    • 12

Shade the ship with one side lighter and one side gradually darker to give the illusion of the rocket ship flying alongside a star.

    • 13

Erase all of the far-side, overlapping lines, which should not appear if the rocket were actually made of opaque steel. A viewer should not look through the ship, so you need to erase all of the lines on the ship that would only be visible from the far side of the rocket.
