    • The Palm Tungsten T3 is a personal digital assistant, also known as a handheld computer. It runs a newer edition of the PalmOS operating system that debuted with the Palm Pilot PDAs, and uses the Graffiti handwriting recognition system to allow its users to simply write on its screen to enter text. Offering expandability through an SD or MMC card, support for Bluetooth and software to synchronize with Windows or Macintosh computers, the Tungsten is a powerful personal digital assistant.

    Display

    • The Tungsten T3 has a screen that is 3.9 inches, measured diagonally, and is 480 pixels tall and 320 pixels wide. It is a backlit TFT LCD that can display a palette of 65,536 colors. The T3 is unique in that when the device is closed, the bottom portion of the screen is covered, giving it the dual benefit of a large screen and a small size.

    Processor & Memory

    • Palm builds the T3 with a 400 megahertz Intel XScale processor. It has 64 megabytes of built-in RAM, of which 51.6 are available for actual use. The T3's memory can be expanded through the addition of an MMC or SD card with a capacity as high as two gigabytes. Its SD card slot can also accept SDIO peripheral devices.

    Input & Output

    • The primary means of interfacing with the Tungsten T3 is through its large touchscreen, which works best with the included stylus and accepts input through the Graffiti handwriting recognition system. The T3 can also be connected to a computer via a Palm sync cable connected to a USB port or serial port. It also supports data transfer over infrared as well as Bluetooth 1.1. It lacks the ability to connect to cellular or Wi-Fi networks, though.

    Operating System & Software

    • The Tungsten T3 comes with version 5.2 of the PalmOS. It also includes a full suite of personal productivity applications, such as a calendar, notepad, contact manager and task list, all of which synchronize with the Palm Desktop software on a PC or Macintosh. It also includes a range of other applications which are either preinstalled or packaged with the software for installation via synchronization with a PC. These applications include an expense tracker, an email client and a photo management package. In addition, the Tungsten T3 can run most third-party PalmOS applications.
