How to Stop Window Drafts at Doors
- 1). Clean the windows thoroughly, removing any mold, mildew or grime that has accumulated on any edges or cracks.
- 2). Peel the paper backing off of the weather stripping and place the stripping on the sides of the windows.
- 3). Seal any nearby doors that may be allowing drafts into the home by performing Steps 1 and 2 on the sides and bottom of the door.
- 4). Seal the entire window for larger drafts. Window sealing kits contain a thin plastic sheet that you seal onto the window using a hair dryer until it is no longer visible; they are available at hardware and home improvement stores.
- 5). Replacing drafty windows with new energy efficient models is an expensive option for stopping drafts. However, there are tax credits available for those who purchase energy efficient options, thus off-setting the cost.
