Dreaming, the mind's method of embarking on adventures across the subconscious, has been a prominent portion of shaping humanity just as old as Mesopotamia. Dreams have increased the human mind's comprehension of the soul, body, and creative skill, as well as transformed medicine, inspired faith, and changed human behavior. In this world, dreaming is a basis of fascination, and understanding one's dream was as vital as understanding the awakening world. Today, dream interpretation is of little importance. Though, it is vital to note the impact dreaming had on mankind, which has grasped into today's society. From traditional significance to scientific purpose, dreams have a significant part in the shaping of humanity—an act that is normally overlooked.

A general outlook about philosophy is that the world may be our imagination or an illusion. Zhuang Zhou, an ancient Chinese philosopher's dream, "The Butterfly Dream" mentioned this concept. In his dream he saw he is a butterfly who is ignorant of his own identity as Zhou. After awaking from the dream he felt confused that whether he is really a butterfly and is now dreaming as Zhou or he is Zhou and dreamed to be as a butterfly. Through this dream, he presented us with a concept that we should try to differentiate between absolute personality of people and objects, whom we perceive to be as real.

The information gathered during the day time is displayed during the REM sleep phase. This helps in improving the memory storage of the brain. During the evolution of mankind's association with cultures, our ancestors acquired the information related to survival, communal interaction and even technology related to agriculture in the day light. Dreaming assisted them in remembering the key elements like the location of their caves and where to look for food. This helped them to develop the art of memory and strengthened their brains.

In the ancient era, people took help of dreams to obtain a high status of recognition and respect for themselves. It was customary for children who reached puberty to try and find their spiritual and life direction through the dream quest as to earn respect and recognition in their societies. Other than this, shamans of the ancient world where those who were specialists for mediating between the life and the spirit world. They received these types of transcendence dreams and were given highest respect, with the power to perform over the rituals of birth, death, marriages and other traditions and customs.

On a more subconscious level our dreams affect us, but our ancestors used dreams as a tool for adjusting their lives and routine activities. The effect of their dreams would have the emotional impact carried over for the next day. They took inspiration from the dream in terms of relationship building, like a positive dream would help in developing a positive relationship with the person seen in the dream and vice versa if they had negative dream. Therefore, dreams played important role in shaping cultures in terms of behavior, and communal interaction.

The dream is the connecting factor among three major religions which are Islam, Judaism and Christianity as it offers guidance in wisdom and inspirations. The holy books of Torah, Bible and Quran are rich with references of dreams and a medium of sacred interventions and disclosures.

While dreaming, the mind is captivated and cannot discriminate between reality and imagination. For our ancestors, dreams carried the same weightage as of reality. If they dreamed anything which is threatening, they took it as a survival advantage and countered it with learning new skills to protect and defend themselves.
