    • 1). Attach the sandpaper disc to the orbital sander and plug into an electrical outlet or extension cord.

    • 2). Turn the sander on and sand the flat surfaces first.

    • 3). Sand all the surfaces of the wooden stair structure including treads, risers, handrails, spindles and any other areas.

    • 4). Use the sanding sponge to help get into the cracks of the steps where the tread meets the riser. It can also be a great tool for sanding spindles and other hard-to-reach areas.

    • 5). Continue sanding lightly until all of the surfaces have been covered and all of the old wood finish has been removed. The wood should be completely free of the old finish in order to have a beautiful, even and new finish.

    • 6). Wipe all sanded areas down with a damp cloth or sweep with a broom to remove any dust or debris left over from sanding.
