How to Troubleshoot a Pan-and-Tilt Camera

    • 1). Check the connection running from the pan-and-tilt camera to your computer or security DVR. If the cable is not completely inserted into the connection port, your computer or DVR is unable to receive the video feed.

    • 2). Remove any debris stuck to the camera lens with a lens-cleaning cloth. If the lens is dirty there is generally no focus option, which in turn draws the focus onto the dust stuck to the lens. This makes all information in the background out-of-focus. Cleaning the lens corrects this.

    • 3). Install the latest driver information to your computer (if you have the pan-and-tilt camera connected to a computer system). Updated drivers correct movement problems you are running into when attempting to control the equipment. Download the driver from the website of the company you purchased the equipment from, then double-click the downloaded driver and follow the installation prompts of the driver wizard that loads onto the screen.

    • 4). Reboot the DVR or computer to which the pan-and-tilt video camera is connected. On occasion the equipment fails to initiate properly, so restarting the hardware corrects the video feed running from the pan-and-tilt camera.
