How to Decorate Fall Baskets for Table Centerpieces
- 1). Shop at your local farmer's market or grocery store for fruits and vegetables representative of the harvest season. Yellow and orange gourds, persimmons, kumquats and pomegranates are good choices because of their bright colors and seasonal availability.
- 2). Find a basket that suits the size and shape of your dining room table to arrange your fall centerpiece.
- 3). Fill the bottom of the basket with silk leaves, eucalyptus or artificial cranberry boughs to provide cushioning and additional color to your arrangement.
- 4). Arrange your harvest fruits and vegetables on top of the leaves to complete the table centerpiece.
- 1). Line the bottom of a horn-shaped basket with dried wheat stalks, making sure the wheat berries are facing outward and are spilling out of the horn. For more color, use colorful fall leaves instead of wheat stalks.
- 2). Place the largest fruits in the basket first to provide the foundation of the cornucopia. Make sure to choose long-lasting produce such as gourds, mini pumpkins, mini ears of dried corn and pomegranates so that the cornucopia won't spoil.
- 3). Continue placing fall-harvested fruits and vegetables into the horn until they begin to spill out onto the table. The smallest items should be placed into the cornucopia last. Possibilities include nuts and small fruits such as kumquats, persimmons and cranberries.
