MTV's True Life "I'm addicted to marijuana"

Interesting this show came up while I was working on this site, it couldn't have been a more perfect time! I want to talk about the realities of marijuana and people who smoke weed all the time have something in common trust me I have been there. Every one of the chronic smokers on the show all admitted they had a problem, one marijuana smoker mentioned he had many reasons why he should quit and on the episode it showed him spending all of his money he made from his job on weed, he also mentions to fulfill his weed habit he had to sell marijuana as well, which puts him at a higher risk to getting caught.

The next chronic smoker MTV portrays already has legal issues, it's an ongoing struggle for him. His father is spending a lifetime sentence from being addicted to crack. Since the smoker is addicted to weed, he was forced to sell marijuana to supply his needs as well, and for that reason he was locked up and now faces legal issues. One thing I noticed is he wants to quit so bad but the problem that he has is that he's still hanging around people who are smokers which is making it harder for him to quit. There is a lesson there, if weed is affecting your life and you want to quit deep down, you should avoid hanging with your old smoking buddies. That said it isn't entirely true, I have a friend who I used to smoke with, but I am able to hangout with him because we have a common interest and that is basketball. He respects the fact I gave up smoking and does not rub it in my face, he also knows since I have quit I am lasting longer out on the court and can hit a game winning shot for our team in any situation.

The next smoker was a girl in her late teens early twenties. She knew weed was affecting her life and has a goal of only smoking 1-2 times a day she is a chronic smoker and towards the end of the episode you learn why, she had a horrific past and experienced being raped and feels the weed helps her forget the traumatic experience. Her section of the show begins with her waking up and smoking out of a bong, then she went off to the animal shelter to volunteer, she fret that anxiety would act up and she would get sick. When she got back you could tell she was antsy, she spilled her milk and was very very unrelaxed. I think this is all a mental thing, even with her horrific experience I don't think weed is the best solution, because it is temporary, it just is not logical to smoke every moment of your life to escape a bad past, the best way is to face it head on and get past your biggest issues. In the end it will feel so surreal to overcome your fears and mistakes.

Now we go back to the smoker with legal issues, his friend had to go to court to face sentencing which he was granted 1 year in federal prison. He admits he could have easily been the one in that situation and notes that he needs to clean up his act. When you make other chronic smoker friends it is normal to see one or two of them face adversity whether it be jail time, or even worse a physical altercation possibly involving weapons. If you are still smoking heavy you may be the next statistic.

Amere the first smoker we talk about really wants to quit you could tell it in his face he knew it was an issue, so he tried to go to rehab. He saw himself in a lot of the addicts at the rehab center, he mentions his addiction is not as bad (there were a lot of heroin and crack addicts there though) he feels as if he doesn't want to go back since it's filled with more harder drug users. After getting to know who Amere is it's obvious he feels comfortable in his situation, he works for very little money and most if not all of it goes to his habit, which forces him to sell weed competing with rival dealers and constantly dodging law enforcement leads him to a lot of problems, getting pulled over and getting held at gun point gave him some insight that the path he was going down was not so comfortable after all. He decided to man up and go to community college in hopes to find a good job.

The girl we talk about earlier who is a chronic smoker mentions that she too wants to quit (all of them do), her logic is not to quit cold turkey but only to smoke when she absolutely needs it. She said that when she was younger and had to sneak out to the back to smoke in the cold winter, she would do it because she was so determined and felt that by "just doing it" she could accomplish her goal, so she reversed engineered her statement by using that logic to quit smoking by having the determination, and "just doing it". Imagine if we all were addicted to something positive and had that logic like helping others if we really were passionate about it and went out and just helped others we would see awesome results. This applies to everything good or bad, I just hope you use it towards good, like working out, or making money, or building things, the list goes on with what you can do with passion, determination and applying the "just do it" logic.

Their minds are all wrapped up in marijuana, it's marijuana this marijuana that, what if you thought about money this money that? Remember that day you were broke but wanted weed? I know I do! Did you end up smoking by the end of the night? Yes you probably did! Because you were determined, your mind was not thinking about anything else but weed. If you want to quit switch up your mindset first and foremost, pick up a hobby that occupies your mind throughout your day, there is no worse feeling than abusing something.

If you are looking for reasons to quit weed and cannot find any reasons in your life then I recommend you read this post Reasons to quit smoking weed
