How to Maintain a Shady Lady Tree
- 1). Plant the Shady Lady tree in full sun with well-drained soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and twice as wide. Place the tree in the hole, and fill the hole with soil.
- 2). Water the Bucida buceras once a week from a garden hose for 10 minutes in periods of little to no natural rainfall.
- 3). Apply ½ cup 10-10-10 liquid fertilizer to the black olive tree once a month during the growing season. Place the fertilizer around the base of the tree.
- 4). Prune the Shady Lady in the early spring. Remove dead, damaged or diseased branches from the tree. Cut off any low hanging branches. Cut out water sprouts or thin, weak branches, or runners growing from the base of the tree.
