How to Decorate Planters With Seashells
- 1). Wash the seashells in soapy water to ensure they don't have any sand or debris stuck to them. Also clean the planter you want to decorate to remove any dirt and dust. Allow the shells and the planter to dry completely.
- 2). Sketch a design that you want to create with the seashells in chalk on the planter. Use chalk to write a message on the planter, with each letter spaced apart. Draw stars, hearts or other shapes or designs, or draw a border around the planter that you will adorn with seashells. If you want to cover the entire planter with shells, you won't need to sketch a design.
- 3). Select a glue to adhere the seashells to the planter. If your planter is made of terra-cotta or clay, you will need a tacky glue. If the planter is made of wood or plastic, use a hot glue gun and glue sticks for the project.
- 4). Line the back or a flat side of a seashell with glue and place it in a desired location on the planter. Hold the shell against the wall of the planter until it can support itself.
- 5). Continue adding seashells to the planter with glue. Follow along the sketched design, attaching the shells over the lines or filling in the shapes you've created. Fit the seashells together like a puzzle, selecting different shapes of shells to be placed snugly next to ones already glued on the planter. Use a pair of tweezers to grip and handle smaller shells.
- 6). Allow the planter to dry completely before use.
