How to Tow a Jeep With an RV
- 1). Purchase a tow bar from an RV supply company or off the Internet. Secure the tow bar to the front of the Jeep, using the instructions and hardware included with the tow bar.
- 2). Park the RV on a flat level area. Drive the Jeep close to the back of the RV. Place the key in the accessory position.
- 3). Depress the brake pedal and shift the automatic transmission into neutral. If the vehicle has a manual transmission, depress the clutch. Shift the transfer case into neutral.
- 4). Start the engine and shift the automatic transmission to drive or place the manual transmission into gear. Release the brake pedal. The vehicle should remain in place. Shut the engine off and place the ignition key in the off position. Shift the automatic transmission into the park position. The transfer case should be in neutral while the automatic transmission should be in park or the manual transmission should be in gear.
- 5). Back the RV up to the Jeep and attach the tow bar to the ball on the hitch. Take care to make sure the tow bar is securely attached.
- 6). Plug the light set into the light receptacle at the back of the RV. String the lights to the back of the Jeep. Attach the magnetic holders for the left light on the left rear of the Jeep and the magnetic holders for the right light on the right rear of the Jeep. Enter the RV and turn the ignition switch to the accessory position. Ask a helper to check that the left turn signal, right turn signal and brake lights show properly at the back of the Jeep.
- 7). Drive the RV forward for a short distance and have a helper view the tow bar connection. If all connections are secure, the Jeep is ready to be towed by the RV.
