Crab Catcher Pismo Beach Review
During a recent trip to Paso Robles wine country I had a chance to eat dinner at a local seafood restaurant located in Pismo Beach California named the Crab Catcher.
We arrived a quarter past six to the restaurant which is located just a block east of the Pismo Beach pier and has ample metered parking on the street in front and around the restaurant.
We were able to find a spot directly in front of the restaurant, but we visited in low season for this beach town so I can't speak to the availability of parking during warm summer days when there would be both more tourists and local interest in visiting the beach.
Upon arriving we noticed a much more quaint restaurant then we initially had pictured.
The Crab Catcher has hard wood floors, comfortable chairs, a small bar in the back corner with seats for two or three people and throw away covers on the tables which initially seemed out of place.
As it turns out these table linen alternatives exist in the restaurant because the most popular dish is a seafood bake typical of Cape Cod (which is what the restaurant reminds us of) where fish, potatoes and vegetables are all steamed together and then literally dumped on the table to be shared by everyone.
Given a late lunch, the seafood bake seemed entirely too ambitious for us (and perhaps too pricy at $68 when we were unsure about the quality of the crab) so both my business partner and I opted to order our own meals.
I started with a cup of clam chowder, the white version.
Overall I'd give the soup a seven out of ten.
There was nothing glaringly wrong with it and it had clearly been made fresh at the restaurant with quality ingredients.
However, the flavor was somewhat lacking and it was a bit boring.
For my main entre I got in touch with my San Diego roots and ordered fish tacos.
The tacos were a basic sole that had been flash fried and included the standard sauce which was incredibly well done.
The tacos also had a small amount of tomatoes and lettuce, added up I have to give the tacos a solid ten, perhaps the best fish tacos I've ever had.
Overall I can certainly suggest the Crab Catcher in Pismo Beach for some good seafood at affordable prices if you find yourself on the California central coast.
