Using your bulletin boards to post important classroom-wide messages and reminders for your math an art projects can span beyond its regular use into an effective tool to assign specialty projects. Consistently posting projects on the bulletin board keeps students interested in the board. Allow students to work together on some of the projects and brainstorm for alternative ways to expand the projects posted. - To help students prepare for math and art related pop quizzes or tests, post a series of flash cards on the bulletin board that students can utilize during classroom study time to work in pairs to memorize important facts. Math cards can contain math problems in the form of equations and word problems for students to work together to solve. Affix folders to the bulletin board and place flash card sets in them. For art projects, a list of important art-related terms and facts such as artists and medium used can be posted on one side the cards with answers on the back. Use duplicate sets for multiple group use or create a variety of sets that can be used on a rotating basis between groups.
- Use the bulletin board to allow students seeking extra credit to pick up worksheets and weekend projects to score some extra points. Art projects can be as simple as creating something artistic over the weekend or a little more interactive such as going to a museum or gallery and completing a report on the artwork featured. Extra math work such as completing reading ahead to prepare for the next chapter and completing a practice test will ahelp overachievers remain occupied and challenge students to strive for performing beyond the average requirements.
- Study groups are effective ways to prepare students for test taking. They also work well at stimulating students into managing projects as a team. Encourage students to form study groups based on in-classroom deadlines and to post group meetings and assignments on the bulletin boards. Groups that form extracurricular teams or after-school clubs with a math or art campus organization can post their meetings and debate sessions on the bulletin board as an invitation to other students who may want to participate.
