America's favorite color for the bathroom is white. Neutral color schemes are also at the top of the list because they easily match any color scheme you choose for accessories. However in recent years, the bland, colorless whites and neutrals have moved aside for some bolder color choices, says Jennifer Haupt of HGTV.com. The key, according to Leatrice Eiseman, director of the Pantone Color Institute, is finding colors that give a clean feeling while staying true to your personal style. - Peach and mint green are a classic combination, and peach provides an excellent backdrop for make up application.Peach and half peach with stone. A bathroom is the home of the mirror. It's where you stumble each morning to brush your teeth and apply makeup. Many people take this into account when choosing color and opt for warm tones that compliment the skin. Designer Jarrett Hedborg explains in an article for HGTV.com that the color on your walls is reflected in the shadows on your face and body. For pink skin tones, peach is an excellent choice because it will warm the shadows of your face. - Blues and greens create a Caribbean theme and, when added to sandy colors, feels like the beach.antigua caribbean beach image by Andrew Howard from Fotolia.com
Tranquility is the theme of a blue-green bathroom. Pantone's color of the year for 2010 is turquoise. Reminiscent of water, this theme creates an atmosphere for relaxation and rejuvenation. In some cultures, turquoise is representative of protection, healing, faith and truth. That theme can be brought into your bathroom space with this color. When paired with sandy neutrals it creates a feeling of bathing on a Caribbean beach. - Mango is a fruity fun color to spice up your bathroom.fruits image by Vinicius Tupinamba from Fotolia.com
Jamie Drake, interior style author of "New American Glamour," says many of his celebrity clients prefer bold colors in the bathroom. "Miami Beach Peach" was a popular pick and mango is just one step further. This color isn't for everyone but it certainly makes a statement. KitchenandBathIdeas.com says pairing this color with light hues of neutral and sycamore cabinetry is best so not to overwhelm a small space. - A mix of lavender and gray is refreshing without being overwhelmingly purple.lavender fields snowshill lavender farm the cotswo image by david hughes from Fotolia.com
Lavender is a classic bathroom favorite. Too much purple can be overwhelming, which is why EasyBathroomRemodeling.com suggests pairing this color with gray to tone it down. When used effectively, lavender can evoke the feeling of walking through a field of flowers. You can also pair lavender with a light yellow, nearly opposite on the color wheel, to amplify the floral theme. - Use cool and warm color combinations to create a contemporary bathroom.art moderne image by Gaelle Levrey from Fotolia.com
A new, popular bathroom theme is a dramatic contemporary color extravaganza. Inspired by modern art, this look features bold statements of deep striking color; a bright plum wall accented with a deep crimson or a light sandy color, for example. Get creative and pick a piece of modern art on which to base your color scheme. Combinations of cool and warm colors and opposites on the color wheel create invigorating drama in the bathroom.
