Linux Game: Field Command

Field Command is a choice-based strategy game, where you control your people with various choices. You guide your Troop around, with World War II technology. Featuring very unique graphics, this relatively short original strategy game is very promising and has a lot of potential gameplay. See my review on Field Command 3 for a newer addition to the Field Command series.
Gameplay
The game play may be simple, but making the right choices is not the easiest thing to do.
Some parts of the game are unrealistic. For example, only one option in each scene allows you to continue. To some players, the game quickly becomes a game of memory rather than a game of strategies because you must remember which options to choose in each part.
Graphics and Audio
The graphics are well made, though simple. This game is themed World War II and it features some cool-looking weapons, such as mortars, artillery systems, grenade launchers and of course tanks. The music can be considered strange (or unique), but still fits the scene quite well.
Special Feature
The cool part about Field Command is the strategy involved. In the first mission, where you have to find an enemy supply drop, you will have to make some very intelligent choices in order to pass the river in the middle of the map. Unlike many other games, everything goes all the way through here. So even if you don't have enough soldiers to cross the river safely, the game will still let you continue fighting to the river, even though any combination of choices is to late to save your squad.
Bottom Line
I highly recommend this free game to fans of strategy games, especially those who like choice-based games. The gameplay may be simple, but it is still very challenging. Whether you are searching for enemy supplies, defending forts, or protecting towns, your intelligent strategies will be rewarded. The unique graphics, interesting music, and the strategic gameplay add to the pleasure.
