How to Hang an Extra Wide Curtain Rod From a Side or Ceiling Mount

    Side Walls

    • 1). Paint the closet-rod mounting brackets the same color as the walls or another complementary color. Let the paint dry completely.

    • 2). Place one bracket on the side wall approximately 2 inches above the top of the window trim and make a pencil mark at the top of the bracket. Measure the distance from the ceiling to the top of the bracket.

    • 3). Measure on the facing side wall the same distance from the ceiling as you measured in Step 2 and make a mark where the bracket needs to be.

    • 4). Screw in the closet-rod brackets on both side walls. Place the curtain rod in the brackets.

    Ceiling Mounts

    • 1). Mark the ceiling where the mount brackets will be installed. It is best to have a bracket just past each side of the window and in the center of the window.

    • 2). Install drywall anchors where each of the brackets will be placed. Drill a small hole that is no longer than the screw in the wall where the screw will be installed. Set the drywall anchor over the hole and gently tap it into place using a small hammer.

    • 3). Set each bracket over the anchors and secure them into ceiling with screws. Place the curtain rod in the brackets.
